Leadership Development
Executive Renewal Program
This program is designed to open the leadership pathways so enriched, oxygenated actions flow from the leader to his or her organization. Typically, Executive Teams convene once a quarter. The four modules of the Executive Renewal Program take place in concert with the meetings already scheduled. We work closely with your Chief Learning Officer (or equivalent role) to align the program leadership competencies with competencies already in-play in your organization. We work closely with the Executive Team’s leader to align program objectives with the required results of the business.
Strategic Leadership Program
For leaders to think and act strategically often requires a significant step up in skill set. It is common for leaders who make the move to a Director level—despite their best efforts—to get pulled back into unproductive details. This multi-step developmental process provides leaders with the tools (The Big 9 Strategic Leadership Practices) to get things done through other leaders.
Customized Program
Customized leadership development programs allow you to drive specific outcomes and—if desired—specific content. For example, one of our clients asked us to design and deliver a series of leadership development programs to illustrate leadership competencies already embedded in the organization. The client-leader needed to have his senior leaders on-board to support an aggressive five year plan. He had just read the book Alignment and asked us to build two, three-day leadership development programs to emphasize the indigenous organizational leadership competencies and to apply leadership lessons from the book to the organization’s specific challenges.
Practicing the Leadership Challenge
What separates extraordinary leadership from average leadership? Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner wrote a seminal book based on their extensive research on the practices of extraordinary leaders: The Leadership Challenge. The result is five leadership practices: 1) Inspiring a Shared Vision; 2) Enabling Others to Act; 3) Challenging the Process; 4) Modeling the Way; 5) Encouraging the Heart.
Following an initial in-person launch meeting, our trainers lead participants through four modules over the course of one year. Participants and their direct reports complete the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI 360 feedback) prior to Module I in order to establish a baseline for leadership effectiveness. Subsequently, each module emphasizes one of the five leadership practices, with the third module covering two leadership practices. Two months following the fourth module participants complete the LPI 360 a second time to track progress quantitatively.
Decision Points Program
Faced with a constant wave of new challenges and increasing complexity, today’s leaders need to make difficult decisions. Effective leaders are not paralyzed by these often sticky, high-consequence forks in the road. They look to many sources for best practices, behaviors to model, and inspiration. By recounting the leadership lessons and heroic adventures of Ernest Shackleton, the enduring spirit of Nelson Mandela, and the steely wisdom of Golda Meir, Decision Points engages leaders to find ways to inspire greater shared vision, relentless innovation and to move through difficult decisions with confidence.
