High Potential Leaders Development Process

Targeted Outcomes:

  • Overcoming the limitations of the Peter Principle—“without outside assistance, people tend to rise to the level of their incompetence.”
  • Addressing head-on the concept of “The skills and attitudes that have contributed to your success thus far are not the only ones to contribute to your success moving forward.”
  • People who are on the cusp of being promoted to the next level of leadership acquiring the skills necessary to succeed at that next level.

Number of Modules & Program Days:

  • Consulting and guidance to develop a high-potentials process or to leverage the process you already have
  • Varies depending on level of leaders you want to develop
  • Typically, two modules, six to eight months apart: Module 1—4 days; Module 2—2.5 days

Synopsis:

Does your organization have an effective process for identifying, dialoguing with, training, assessing and preparing leaders for their next leadership role?  How do managers gain the leadership skills necessary to be effective leaders before they receive the promotion?  How do first tier managers gain the leadership skills and business acumen necessary to be effective Directors before they become Directors?

We have experienced the usual process: the stand-out sales Manager is identified as a potential Director due to their sales and coaching abilities—without taking into account other qualities or variables.  The stand-out engineering Manager is tapped to become IT department Director without considering whether they have the skills to lead effectively at the Director level.  Sometimes this method can work; frequently it does not.

Many organizations look for effective and creative ways to populate the leadership pipeline.  This service is more than succession planning; this service provides you with a replicable method for increasing the probability that leaders are more effective more quickly in their newly appointed roles—whether they are first tier managers or VPs.  The specific content can be customized to the specific leadership skills of the particular level of leader.

This service is most relevant for:
